Amid the fun of yard sales, fireworks and a parade, the Martinsburg Police Department would like to share some important tips for the upcoming week.
Bargain Day in Martinsburg is this Friday, June 25, 2021. The annual J4 celebration will be held next week from Tuesday, June 29, through Saturday, July 3, with activities and a carnival every evening at Morrisons Cove Memorial Park.
There will be fireworks on Saturday evening, June 26, and Friday evening, July 2, both starting at 10 p.m.
The annual Ag Parade will be held on Tuesday, June 29 at 6 p.m., rain or shine. The parade will be on the normal route from Cross Cove Road to Morrisons Cove Memorial Park. The police department thanks PennDOT for approving the parade route permit.
Pedestrian and vehicular traffic in Martinsburg will be very heavy during all of these events and we are asking everyone to be patient and drive safely. Those who don’t want to deal with the traffic should avoid the area. Leave early for your destination. If you’re attending the parade, either as a spectator or a participant, plan on arriving early. In the past, traffic has been backed up to Interstate 99 prior to the parade.
All parade participants are encouraged to use S. Nicodemus St. and Central High Road to get to the lineup area.
Police presence will be heavy and will be providing traffic control during some of the events. Please pay close attention to anyone directing traffic and again, be patient. The police will get you through the congested areas as quickly as possible.
Want some extra fun and avoid the traffic? Take the parade train.
During the parade, please keep the young ones off the road. There is a lot of large machinery and trucks in the parade. The parade route will be closed to through traffic during the parade, which is usually about two to three hours. There is a detour around the parade route.
Help keep the community looking great by cleaning up after yourself and do not let trash lay along the street, sidewalk and yards along the parade route. Pick it up and properly dispose of it, even if it’s not yours. It’s called littering and it’s against the law.
The police department wants everyone to enjoy the festivities, and safety is their main concern.
Please don’t park in areas posted with No Parking signs. Don’t park in a manner that blocks other cars from leaving the area. Keep your vehicles locked when unattended. Keep an eye on your kids. Report any suspicious activity by calling 911.
Stay safe.
