The town of Williamsburg brought in Memorial Day with a bang.
In collaboration with the Williamsburg Volunteer Fire Department, Brumbaugh Fireworks Display Inc., hosted a demo night at the Williamsburg Community Center May 29. The event not only served as a way to entertain the community, but also to teach them about fireworks.
Joe Denison is owner Gary Brumbaugh's brother-in-law. A native of Williamsburg, he was in charge of the demo.
"We have been in the industry for 30 years doing different shows, but only opened the store over three years ago," he said.
Selling fireworks has only been legal in Pennsylvania for a few years. Before then, those who wanted to set them off had to go out of state.
Starting at 5 p.m., the community could come into the community center and see all of the fireworks that would be fired off. All of the 112 fireworks are models from 2020 and 2021.
At 6 p.m., Denison showed a demonstration at the baseball field near the community center. The night ended with a fireworks show.
The event also featured drawings and food made by the fire department.
Denison said that Brumbaugh Fireworks was not keeping any of the proceeds, as all money was going to the fire department.
"We do fireworks because we love and enjoy it," said Denison. "Last year was tough, but we have a lot of bookings this year."
Brumbaugh Fireworks has done shows for Lakemont Park's Fourth of July celebration and Duncansville Community Days.
