Authority Discusses Costs of Extending Water Line to Church

During the April meeting, the Williamsburg Municipal Authority discussed getting water out to the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. The board asked Stiffler McGraw engineer John Clabaugh for some cost estimates. Clabaugh delivered at the May meeting, last Tuesday evening, May 4.

Clabaugh said that this project was previously discussed and after surveys sent out to the area around CMA church, that the interest did not meet the demand.

The church would need a pump on-demand system and a holding tank, which would suit their public water needs. This system would be an estimated cost of $420,000.

Clabuagh said this price was “sizably expensive but feasible.”

Treasurer for the Municipal Authority David Myers, who was absent from meeting, conveyed a message that the authority does not have funds to do another project or a project of this size.

Authority members asked Church representatives, who were in attendance, if they could contribute to the costs. Eventually, with or without the authority, the CMA Church will have to do something to serve the needs of public water, as the church representatives had already had meetings with the Department of Environmental Protection.

Discussions also solicited the need to ask for grants as well as talk with local representatives for any other funds that are out there. The authority decided to table the discussion until the June meeting.

Borough Manager Joe Lansberry said a service contract was needed for three generators (one at water plant and two at pump stations). He received a cost estimate at $6,880, which was $1,720 a year for maintenance.

Harry Mullins made the motion to accept service contract with Daryl Cole seconding, and the motion passed.

Lansberry also discussed the need for a new riding mower, and asked for permission to give funds toward a tractor, noting the borough’s prior commitment of $3,000. Mullins made the motion for sewer and water to give $3,000 each toward a new riding tractor for mowing. With Stan Grove seconding, the motion passed.
