The Martinsburg Community Library appreciates all the donations of books for the book sale scheduled for May 27-29 during library hours.
Since we have not had a book sale since September 2020, due to the pandemic, quite a number of donated books have accumulated.
Because the library has very limited storage space, we asked Allan Bassler, owner of the Herald, if he could let us use some of his empty storage bins. Three storage bins have been filled with books.
There is still some room for those interested in donating books. Donations will be accepted until May 26. Please call the library at 793-3335 for more information.
Herald owner Allan Bassler said that he was happy to provide temporary storage of the books. Bassler said that the Herald has temperature- and humidity-controlled storage units available in the Herald building in Martinsburg.
"We just finished building the storage units last year, so not a lot of people know about them yet," Bassler said. "But we do have storage units available."
Because the temperature and humidity are controllable, the storage units are good for storing belongings like books, clothing furniture and instruments.
"Belongings like that don't react well to being stored in what is basically an outdoor shed," Bassler said. "We saw a need and that's why we offer the storage units right here in Martinsburg."
Bassler said that the storage units are accessible 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and offer a raised dock for easy loading and unloading.
Bassler encourages those interested in the Herald's storage units to call (814) 793-2144.
