Schools Close This Week

Commencement week at Martinsburg High was front page news. Baccalaureate services were held in the Church of God with Pastor W.H. Snyder addressing the graduates. Class Day exercises were held in Brumbaugh Hall with teachers Prof. M. Elton Dean and Mary Graffius leading the opening march. Introduction of class was made by President Roy Brumbaugh, after which Rose Lower presented the class statistics. Commencement on Tuesday was Marred by rain. Vocalist Kenton Miller and accompanist Mary Straesser opened the program. Prof. Homer Dilworth of Millersville State Normal School was speaker, followed by addresses of honor students Margaret Straesser and Marguerite Hoover, whose subject centered on the class motto, “Tonight We Launch, Where Shall We Anchor?” Supt. T.S. Davis handed diplomas to graduates Rose Lawler, Mary Books, Florence Boals, Anna Walter, Keim Bonebreak, Roy Brumbaugh, Guy Hartman, Clifford Sipes and the honor students.
