M-burg Streets to be Paved

Martinsburg Borough Council approved paving about 1,470 feet of borough streets and alleys this summer. The job is expected to cost about $40,000 although Borough Manager Randy Stoltz warned councilmembers that fluctuating petroleum prices have a strong effect of asphalt prices.

The Spring Cove Education Foundation announced the 2011 recipients of the Educator, Support Staff and Volunteer of the Year awards. Honored were: Mrs. Delores O’Dea, support staff of the year; Miss Julie Potter, volunteer of the year; Mrs. Diane Helffelfinger, educator of the year, and Craig Timony, lifetime achievement award.

The Central Dragons found a way to win all three of their baseball games last week to improve its record to 8 –3 on the season. After a 9-8 barnburner at Lewistown, the Dragons out-pitched Huntingdon 3-1 then won a slugfest for the ages 36-22.
