W-burg Furloughs Teachers

Herald of April 21, 2011

With one dissenting vote, the directors of the Williamsburg Community School District voted to furlough eight teachers and two staff members. About 45 teachers and staff members attended the meeting and seven teachers addressed the school board before the vote.

Furloughs in the Spring Cove School District are not yet official, but the school board Monday night moved one step closer to the money-saving job cuts by agreeing to notify the Pennsylvania Department of Education of the changes it may make.

Proposed changes in school lunch standards have Cove schools ready and willing, but not sure about the wisdom of the changes. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) in January released proposed changes to school lunches, mostly concerning nutrition standards and reflect a concern about childhood obesity.

Last week was a solid one for the Central Dragons’ baseball team as they won two of three contests, including a split in the Curve Classic in Altoona.
