Williamsburg's Lower Trail Creamery Plans Summertime Events

A local favorite reopened for the season Saturday, Apr. 3. with a new look.

The Lower Trail Creamery has been run for four seasons by Leslie Lower and her husband, Reggie. For the past three years, the creamery used the same trailer left by the previous owner. According to Lower, it was time for a change.

"We were outgrowing our old trailer, and we wanted an updated look" she said.

To fix this obstacle, the Lowers found a used trailer which, with the handiwork of Reggie, underwent a complete renovation. This involved moving windows and the doorway, adding new flooring, ceiling, lighting, windows and completing the look with new siding and banners.

Along with the new trailer, there are new Adirondack chairs and a new pavilion, but a new look is not the only thing new at the creamery.

Lower said customers can expect many changes this year. She said they have been working on a calendar of events to provide the community with fun and family-oriented themed events and sales/specials throughout the season.

"Memorial Day weekend, we are hosting Slingers Throw House from Altoona for an evening of axe-throwing fun," Lower said. "Slingers will be bringing their mobile axe-throwing lane where you can purchase throws. The event will be held Saturday, May 29 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Lower said she is also planning a Rubber Ducky Race May 15 as a fundraiser to benefit Mending Hearts Animal Rescue in Hollidaysburg. Ducks will sell ducks. Sign-up sheets will be available at the creamery.

More events will be planned as the summer continues, according to Lower.

While there are no new items on the menu this year, later in the season they plan to offer some hot food items on the weekends.

"Reggie is working on building a smoker. We are going to offer barbecue pork and beef brisket sandwiches, as well as some fried food options," she said.

Lower said the reason for so many additions are for the sake of the community, knowing there aren't many options in a small town.

"Without their support, we wouldn't be here," Leslie said. "We want to give something back and provide some fun and excitement for our community and to draw others here."

"I love the joy we can bring to people with something as simple as ice cream," she said. "A person would never realize the amount of work that goes into running an ice cream shop, but seeing the community gathering at our business, bringing their dogs and kids, grandkids and friends makes it all worthwhile to see their smiles. We are very thankful. Being able to bring them happiness like this is amazing."

She said the business runs smoothly with the help of the creamery's team of workers, all Williamsburg natives, many who have been there since the first or second season.

"We couldn't do it without them. They are very dedicated, and we are very proud of them."

The Lower Trail Creamery is open seven days a week through Labor Day weekend, including all holidays. Hours of operation are noon to 9 p.m. on weekends and 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays.
