Job Fair at Memorial Park Planned for Appvion Workers

The closing of the Appvion plant in Roaring Spring eliminated about 300 area jobs.

In response, PA CareerLink, along with community partners and select area employers, will host an in-person, socially distanced job fair for those workers on Tuesday, April 20, 2021.

Due to social distance requirements, this job fair is for Appvion workers only.

The job fair will be held at Morrisons Cove Memorial Park, 201 S. Walnut St., Martinsburg, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 20.

Appvion workers are asked to please call to pre-register for a time slot. The number to call is (814) 623-6107.

An estimated 24 employers from Blair, Bedford, and Huntingdon counties will be recruiting at this job fair. The employers want to talk to Appvion workers and have openings that match with those workers’ skills.

There will also be community partners present to answer questions about trade benefits, education and re-training opportunities, unemployment issues, and where to find assistance with issues such as health-care insurance, housing and utilities.

The fair will be traffic-controlled and socially distanced, so workers are asked to call to pre-register for a time slot. Having a resume in hand is not required, but can be helpful. Workers who need assistance should contact any of the local PA CareerLink offices:

Blair County: (814) 940-6200 or Bedford County: (814) 623-6107.

Employers scheduled to be present include ACCO, American Eagle, BC Stone, Bedford Reinforced Plastics, Blair Image Elements, Cenveo, Champion Homes, Curry Supply, Lampire Biologicals, Mayville

Engineering, Mission Critical Solutions, New Pig, NPC, REI, Sheetz (Retail/DC/Corporate), Smith Transport, Tram Bar, UPMC, US Foods, Walmart DC, Your Building Center.

Agencies scheduled to be present include Allegany Community College, Center for Community Action, Greater Altoona Career & Technology Center, The Health Insurance Place, PA CareerLink and PA Unemployment.
