Akes Sell Herald to B.M. Bice

Elmer C. Ake announced the retirement of him and his wife as publishers of the Herald and reported that as of April 1 the new owner and publisher would be Blair M. Bice. The Akes owned the Herald for 17 years. During most of that time Mrs. Ake was in charge of the newspaper while Mr. Ake worked at the Altoona Mirror, where he was city editor for 36 years.
A million-dollar improvement program for the Martinsburg airport has been planned by the Blair County Airport Commission. It was reported that a major airline would be interested in starting commercial service if the proper facilities could be provided.
More than 500 men attended a banquet of the Bedford County Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs held at the Loysburg Grange Hall.
Palmer J. Barkman, well known sergeant in the Army, will return to his farm north of Woodbury. He has been residing in Everett after being discharged from the service.
