Scamming in the United States is as old as the country itself. For centuries scammers have used the same basic method of deceit to con people out of their money with only their methods changing with technology.

The newest scam involves a tactic known as "spoofing." Spoofing is when a caller, using easily available technology, intentionally changes the number that shows up on a caller ID to show a local number or number of a well-known business or government office, fooling the recipient into thinking the call is legitimate.
