Southern Cove Power Reunion Plans Spring Events; Fundraisers

The Southern Cove Power Reunion held a meeting on March 4 at 6 p.m. for the directors and a second meeting at 7 p.m. for the members.

The Antique Construction Equipment and Truck Show is June 19. Contact Fred Mellott at (814) 766-2703 with questions.

The club’s Annual Tractor Ride is June 26 at 10 a.m. The club will meet at the Crossroads Bible Church parking lot at 5564 U.S. Business 220, Bedford. The route will be in the Dutch Corner area. The participants will stop at Bence Farm Equipment for lunch. Lunch will be provided and will be held rain or shine. Call Tim Clark for any questions at (814) 839-2246.

Tractor Pull Schedule

The Tractor Pull Schedule for the 2021 pull season is:

April 17, May 15, June 19, July 17, Aug. 21, Sept. 17 and 18 (weigh-in will be at 4 p.m.) and Oct. 9.

All tractors may start weigh-in at 3 p.m. unless otherwise specified. Contact Jason Hileman with questions at (814) 494-2388.Tractor pull rules have been updated for the 2021 tractor pull season.

The fall show will be held on Sept. 17, 18 and 19.

Three classes will be held at each Tractor Pull, which includes Antique Class, Farm Stock and Open Class.

Banners are available for businesses to purchase for advertisement at the tractor pulls. Contact Fred Mellott at (814) 766-2703 for information.

Members will be working on improving the bleachers for the public’s comfort. There is no charge to attend the tractor pulls. Food will be available at the concession stand for purchase. Dogs are not permitted on the show grounds.

Banquet and meeting plans

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, the Annual Club Banquet was not held in February. The Board of Directors has decided to do a catered meal for club members and their families on May 15 at noon outside at the club grounds. It will be by reservations only. A letter about the meal will be sent out in April to all club members. The meal will be chicken dinners and will be made by Royal Rangers.

The monthly Board of Director meetings and club meetings are held on the first Thursday of the month. Everyone is welcome to attend both meetings.

The Board of Directors meets from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and members meet from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Dates are as follows:

March 4, April 1, May 6, June 3, July 1, August 5, Sept. 2, Oct. 7 and Nov. 4.

The club is accepting applications for the club scholarship. The club will not contact high schools. The scholarship is good for one year only. Applicants must pursue a degree with the intent of a vocation in agriculture. Applicants must have an affiliation with the Southern Cove Power Reunion.

The Club has sweatshirts, T-shirts and hats for sale. Contact Melanie Clapper at (814) 937-0044 for more information. She will also be at all tractor pulls, set up under the tent by the track.

The club’s annual Tractor Raffle is going on now. Prizes to be awarded:

1st prize, 1973 Ford 2000

2nd prize, pedal tractor

3rd prize is $75

4th prize is $50

5th prize is $25

6th prize is a toy tractor

The drawing will be held on Sunday, Sept. 19, at the Fall Show. Participants need not be present to win.

The group has a Facebook site which is new and improved. If a tractor pull is canceled, it will be posted on the site or those concerned may call club grounds at (814) 766-2100.

Show directories for 2021 are available to purchase at the kitchen.
