Putting cows on the front page since 1885.
The Herald’s print sports pages look different this week. The main reason is that long-time Editor Brian Hess has moved on to a new position outside of the Herald. Brian had been employed at the Herald since 1999 and he did a lot of good work while he was here.
He will be missed. As will all the work that he did every week. We have not yet filled the editor position, so all the work that Brian did has been divided up. That means the workload has substantially increased for several of us in the office. We might miss something or not do something the same way that Brian did it. (Note that Brian wore two hats: Editor and Sports Editor. He was a busy guy.)
We apologize in advance, but there will be less detail in the sports reports. We only have time to prepare what the coaches or correspondents send us. We’ve tried to compensate by using more photos.
Second, we’ve changed the software that we use for the Herald’s layout and design. This means that some things like the type fonts might look different.
So, if the Herald Sports section looks a little different this week, those are the reasons why. Please be patient with us as we conduct the search for our next sports editor and work out the bugs of adopting new software.
As always, if you have a thought about the Herald sports coverage, what we do or how we do it, we’d love to hear from you. Please contact us at (814) 793-2144 or publisher@mcheraldonline.com.
Thank you for your patience.
