Galen Whetstone Honored

Galen Whetstone of Woodbury received a plaque from the Woodbury Community Center Board, recognizing him for his outstanding work for the Community Center. During the past year Whetstone spearheaded fund-raising for and construction of a picnic pavilion at the center. As president of Woodbury Borough Council, Whetstone served on the Community Center board.

Giving to the Martinsburg Community Fund increased by more than $1,357 from 1994 to 1995. The 1995 total raised, $27,598, exceeded the amount raised three years ago by 38 percent. In 1995 the fund received donations from 453 households.

The Northern Bedford boys’ varsity roundball team capped a great regular season with a 94-46 shellacking of visiting Hyndman on Feb. 17 on the Loysburg hardwood. With the win, the Panthers racked up a 21-3 record on the year, which earned the Cats first seed in District 5-A. The Northern Bedford girls’ varsity team earned the top seed in the District 5-A playoffs with a 19-3 record.
