At last month’s Williamsburg Borough meeting, Chief of Police Rowdy Kagarise asked for permission to solicit bids for a new camera system for the borough building and to protect the prescription drop-off box the borough was given.
At the regular meeting on Monday Feb. 1, Chief Kagarise presented four bids for a camera system. The council voted to accept the bid of Smithmyers Electronics of Altoona. The company provided Chief Kagarise with bid of $1,988 for an eight-camera system with two terabytes of storage and the option of an additional $400 for a 16-camera system and four terabytes of memory.
Councilmember Jon Detwiler made a motion to purchase the 16-camera system option with Councilman Bruce Hamilton seconding. The motion passed unanimously.
Chief Kagarise also told borough council that he and Mayor Ted Hyle walked around the former GenOn property with Ilona Ballreich of Penn State University in relation to her interest in partnering the university and the town of Williamsburg. No further details were given.
Mayor Hyle discussed with borough council members the steel structure closest to Williamsburg on the GenOn property recently acquired by the borough. Hyle wants to ask Solicitor Nathan Karn, who was absent from the meeting, about how to put it out for purchase.
