The Northern Bedford High School wrestling team opened its season Jan. 21 with two dual meets – losing 38-16 against Mount Union but defeating Claysburg-Kimmel 36-11.
Against Mount Union, Northern Bedford earned two falls and one major decision. Freshman Rece Dibert and junior Dakota Korzec pinned their opponents at 160 and 215 pounds, respectively. Freshman Eion Snider won by major decision at 152 pounds.
Mount Union earned its points with three forfeits, two pins, one technical fall and one decision. There were no matches at 172, 189 and 113 pounds.
Against C-K, the Panthers won four matches by forfeit and two by fall.
Forfeits were awarded to sophomore Drew Childers (132 pounds), freshman Rece Dibert (160) and juniors Dillian Walker (120) and Reyan Imler (126). Freshman Eion Snider pinned freshman Anthony McGeary at the 5:44 mark of the 152-pound bout, while junior Dakota Korzec pinned freshman Replogle in 1:53 at 215 pounds.
For C-K, sophomore Cole Claycomb earned a technical fall over senior Tristin Pepple, (17-1, 4:23) at 138 pounds and junior Zach McGeary won by forfeit at 172.
There were no matches at 145, 189, 285, 106 and 113 pounds.
“As a team I thought we wrestled well,” Northern Bedford coach Brian Dutchcot said. “Eion Snider, Rece Dibert and Dakota Korzec showed a lot of aggression in their matches. They were all looking to score points in every position.”
I have to commend all of the wrestlers from every team who are competing this year and wearing masks.”
Mo Valley 42, NB 18
At Moshannon Valley on Jan. 23, Northern Bedford surrendered five forfeits in a 42-18 setback.
The host squad also earned two falls in the victory.
The Black Panthers had four decisions on the night: sophomore Drew Childers (132 pounds), freshmen Rece Dibert (152) and Eion Snider (160) and junior Dakota Korzec (215). Junior Reyan Imler won by forfeit at 126 pounds.
There was no match at 145 pounds.
“Our wrestlers continue to improve with each match,” NB coach Brian Dutchcot said. “They have been practicing hard in the wrestling room and it is benefitting them in their dual meets.
“Rece Dibert, Eion Snider, and Dakota Korzec again looked very good in their wins. Drew Childers earned a nice victory also.”
