A Pennsylvania Railroad firefighter was killed when a wall fell on him during a fire in Altoona that destroyed the Central Hotel and a brick building next to it at the corner of 10th Avenue and 11th Street.

William Dickey of McKee fell and broke his leg while driving the donkeys that pulled the ganister cars up an down the mountain at the quarry.
