A Notary Following in Her Mother's Footsteps

For 39 years, if you needed a notary in Williamsburg, you looked no further than out Fairview Road for Linda K. Hostler, who was also the tax collector.

When Hostler decided she would give up the notary business, she worried about who would take care of her customers. Her daughter, Danielle McCall, answered the call.

After Hostler's retirement, McCall opened Country View Notary and is now licensed and operating.

"There's no one around to do notary work," McCall said, "and it's something that everyone needs at least one time in their life."

McCall went on the path to becoming a notary, which included a three-hour drive to Chambersburg to take a "10-minute exam," McCall said. "I waited, got my number and stamp, and I was good to go," she said.

Her best training? From her mother, of course. McCall said that when she has a question, "my mom is my first call and she tells me what to do."

As of now, McCall can do notary work on trucks, cars, motorcycles and trailers – "basically anything legal on the road," McCall said.

She is working on getting licensed for ATVs and snowmobiles, but said that the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources needs to get involved for that work.

When asked how her mother feels about taking over, McCall said, "She's happy for me, she was very worried about getting people taken care of [for their notary needs]."

McCall is currently open by appointment only. Country View Notary is located at 125 Country View Lane in Williamsburg. To contact McCall, call (814) 937-0107.
