Putting cows on the front page since 1885.

Herald of Dec. 28, 1995
The New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co. is the apparent low bidder for the $8 million widening of Route 36 through McKee Gap, submitting a bid that was $1 million lower than the only other bidder, HRI Inc. of State College. The NES&L bid on the McKee project came in at $8.1 million. The bid from HRI Inc. was $9.1 million.
The big news of 1995 in the Cove area revolved around several major public works projects that were being finished or started during the year. Martinsburg was putting the finishing touches on a $4 million sewage treatment plant as the year began, and Roaring Spring was starting a $4 million water system improvement project as the year ended. Williamsburg was making plans to begin a major water project in 1996. Two major highway projects long under discussion both made major leaps in 1995. Engineering and design were completed on the Loysburg bypass and the McKee Gap widening and the projects, costing about $8 million each, went to bid late in the year. Dirt should be flying at both ends of the Cove next spring.
