Ilona Ballreich, a professor at Penn State University, discussed a potential relationship between the university and the town with Williamsburg Borough Council during the Dec. 7 meeting.
“Yes, we are still in the dreaming phase,” Ballreich said, “but there are many different items or issues in town that could be addressed.”
Ballreich mentioned the possibility of solar power generation, most likely to be set up at the sewer plant or a site to allow handicapped accessibility for fishing in the river in Williamsburg.
Councilmember Don Zimmerman said, “I think this is a great idea.”
Councilmember Ed Patterson agreed and said, “We always need to move forward.”
Another of the potential projects could be the gift of the GenOn property that was announced at the meeting. The property is on the old Penelec property coming into town.
Councilmember Patterson made a motion to accept agreement with Councilmember Bruce Hamilton seconding, and the motion passed.
Mayor Ted Hyle said he “wished to thank Joe, Rowdy and Lisa for all their work on the project.”
Councilmember Jim Foreso made a motion to sign the Stiffler-McGraw engineering services agreement for 2021 with Councilmember Paula Hamilton seconding and the motion passed.
The 2021 budget was approved with the same millage as last year. All councilmembers voted yes to approve both the budget and millage ordinance No. 400 for 2021.
