Several weeks ago, on Nov. 25, 2020, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced its decision to deny a permit for the proposed Pebble Mine in the Bristol Bay region of Alaska under Section 404 of the Clean Water Act and Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act. In a statement, Army Corps Alaska District Commander, Col. Damon Delarose, said the mine would be "contrary to the public interest" because "it does not comply with Clean Water Act guidelines."
