November 17, 2020
Dear SCSD Parents and Guardians;
Our District has been notified of an individual who recently tested positive for COVID, bringing the total number of cases to eleven. As always, the Department of Health was contacted in regard to this situation. The very few individuals who may have been exposed in association with this case have been contacted by the school and directed to quarantine. If you have not been contacted, your child is not impacted by this situation.
Despite this one additional case, we are currently still on track to return to in-person classes at Central High School on Thursday, November 19. A large number of quarantined students were released to return today, and many more quarantined and isolated individuals are expected to be released by Thursday. Cases in our other school buildings remain isolated. We greatly appreciate the preventative measures that families are taking, such as keeping children home when ill, quarantining as soon as someone within the household tests positive, etc. Your efforts are truly limiting our staff and students’ exposure to the virus.
New Order from PA Department of Health
Also, please be aware that, today, the Pennsylvania Department of Health issued an order which takes effect on November 20, 2020, at 12:01 a.m. This order requires individuals entering Pennsylvania from other countries or states to have a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours prior to entering Pennsylvania or to otherwise quarantine for 14 days upon entry into Pennsylvania. The following site explains this order: https://www.health.pa.gov/topics/disease/coronavirus/pages/travelers.aspx If you plan to travel out of the state, please reference and comply with these requirements.
With COVID cases continuing to increase in Pennsylvania, as we approach the upcoming holidays, we ask that families please make an extra effort to help us keep the virus out of our schools by washing hands often, wearing face coverings, covering coughs and sneezes, maintaining physical distance of at least six feet, and avoiding large group gatherings and travel.
We appreciate your continued cooperation and support as we work together through these challenging times.
Sincerely,
[signed]
Betsy A. Baker, D.Ed.
Superintendent
