James Creek
Glenn Edgar "Ed" Houp, 80, long-time resident of James Creek, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2020, at AristaCare at Woodland Park, Orbisonia.
Born Oct. 21, 1940, in Hopewell Township, Huntingdon County, he was a son of the late George F. Houp, Sr. and Alice (Russell) Houp. He was united in marriage to the former Linda G. Lawson on Feb. 14, 1959.
In addition to his wife of 61 years, he is survived by three daughters: Tereasa Shepherd and her husband, Doug, of Mesa, Ariz., Sandra McCall and her husband, Ken, of Hershey, and Glenda Lewis and her husband, Bruce "Chip," of Huntingdon. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Amanda Shepherd-Littlejohn and her husband, James, Juliana Davis and her husband, Daniel, Stephen Shepherd and his wife, Jessica, Melinda "Mindy" Nicholas and her husband, Mark, Andrew Shepherd, and Robert "Chandler" Lewis; and three great-granddaughters: Giana Shepherd, Zoe Davis and Eisele Littlejohn; as well as, many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Christiana Shepherd; and his five siblings, E. Faye Swope, Betty Hall, Annabelle Kidd, George F. Houp, Jr. and Earl Houp.
Mr. Houp was a long-time member of the Community Chapel of Hesston, where he served as an elder.
He was a member of the Woodcock Valley Lions and the Huntingdon County Home Builders Association, and was involved in the Marklesburg Volunteer Fire Company for several years. He was also an original and lifetime member of the Camp Leona Hunting Camp in Potter County.
He attended Saxton-Liberty High School in Saxton.
Mr. and Mrs. Houp owned and operated Hilltop Tank and Supply in Hopewell Township, James Creek, from 1971 until 2015.
He enjoyed NASCAR and football, and was a Penn State fan.
A graveside funeral service will be held Saturday, Nov. 7, 2020, at the Russellville Reformed Cemetery, Route 26 south, Raystown Road, James Creek, with Pastor Scott Decker officiating. Family and friends will meet at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 2020, at the Community Chapel of Hesston, 5789 Orchard Road, Huntingdon, for a funeral procession to cemetery, where services will begin upon arrival.
A celebration of life service is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, April 17, 2021, COVID permitting, at the Community Chapel of Hesston. Full details will be announced in the spring.
