The South Woodbury Township Board of Supervisors met Tuesday, Oct. 6, at the township building.
Dave Butterbaugh from Lehman Engineers was present to get signing on a plot of ground from the Detwiler Farm’s F5111.
Matt Godissart from the Bedford County Library reported what the library is currently doing during this time of COVID-19. Godissart showed electrical, architectural and building basic learning kits the library had available to send home with children. Godissart explained the cost to create the kits, discussed other items the library has created such as sphere roots and tudor.com, and thanked the township for its donation each year.
Wayne Zimmerman asked the supervisors what the plan is for Muley Lane due to bus stops. Supervisor/Roadmaster Musselman explained some of the challenges Muley Lane presents and said there has been slate and gravel placed on a portion of it. Supervisor Musselman said more slate can be placed on the slate and gravel and next year the supervisors will determine if tarring and chipping would be appropriate for Muley Lane.
Ed Bellock, of Bellock Engineering, requested a variance from the board of supervisors for a building. The client of 169 Beaver Creek Road would like to build an 18-foot-by-8-foot addition on the basis that there will be no increase in the base flood elevation due to this addition. The variance was granted as requested.
Mussleman gave his roadmaster report. A guiderail and cable were removed on Chestnut Street. Also, mowing was completed.
The Bedford County Association of Municipalities meeting was attended by Rick Mussleman. He said there will be three meeting held a year and they are encouraging participation from all.
The 2021 Budget was given out to all supervisors and will be advertised. The Payroll tax Deferral was discussed and was not approved by the supervisors. An invitation was given to a supervisor to attend the Bedford County Hazard Mitigation Plan’s 2020 annual Review Meeting scheduled at 10 a.m. on Nov. 13 via Zoom.
The Area Code Overlay was discussed from CenturyLink. The area code 814 numbers have been used up. Starting April 3, 2021, all residents will need to dial a 1 in front of the 814 number to make calls. A new area code of 582 will start to be utilized. A suggestion was made to start utilizing the number at this time.
A bulletin was shared with everyone on Bedford County’s (Shop with a Cop in partnership with United Way of Bedford County, Your Safe Haven Inc. and Altoona First Savings Bank. This was for a Trunk or Treat Oct. 9 at the Everett Walmart, Oct. 10 at Northern Bedford High School and Oct. 11 at Chestnut Ridge Middle School.
A thank-you letter was received from the Southern Cove Volunteer Fire Company for the fall donation received from the township.
Judith Ott a representative the United Stated Census Bureau gave an update on the Census. The 2020 census comes to an end Oct. 31.
Supervisors will meet Monday, Nov. 2. Also, the Dec. 1 meeting will begin at 6 p.m.
