The post-war period of twenty five years ago must have been pretty tough going for the publishers of The Herald. There was but little local news in the paper. An announcement explained that the linotype operator was ill, and the Herald folks had to depend mostly on plate matter, items already in type, to get out the week’s paper.
The latter part of the previous week a fire in the theatre district of New York City resulted in a loss of half a million dollars, with a number of people being injured.
