The high school football season is one week away from the start of the District 5 and 6 playoffs.
Entering Friday's (Oct. 16) game, Central looks to remain undefeated and keep its grip on the top of the District 6 Class 3A playoffs, Northern Bedford hopes to run its win streak to five, in preparation of the District 5 playoffs, Williamsburg seeks a spot in the District 6 Class 1A playoffs and Claysburg-Kimmel hopes to get back on track.
The Dragons (5-0) will entertain Penns Valley (1-2), Northern Bedford (4-1) will visit C-K (1-4) and Williamsburg (2-3) will battle West Branch (1-4) at the Hollidaysburg's Tiger Stadium.
All games are scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m.
Penns Valley @ Central
Penns Valley is coming off a 27-21 loss to visiting Tyrone on Oct. 9, while CHS rallied past Clearfield, 25-21.
Since 2007, the Dragons have a 11-3 series lead against the Rams. Penns Valley, however, has won the last two games, 42-21 in 2019 and 31-29 in 2018. Prior to that, CHS had won 11 straight since a Penn Valley win in 2007.
Northern Bedford @ C-K
The Black Panthers ran their winning streak to four with a 36-19 victory over Juniata Valley on Oct. 9. NB sits as the second seed in the District 5 Class 1A playoffs, behind top-seeded Tussey Mountain (5-0). C-K, meanwhile, suffered its fourth straight setback Oct. 9, falling to Williamsburg, 42-0.
NB holds a 14-2 record against C-K since 2004. After the Bulldogs won in 2004, 24-21, NB ran off 13 straight wins in the series. C-K prevailed, 13-10, in 2018 before Northern Bedford cruised to a 35-7 win last season.
West Branch @ WHS
The Warriors lost a 44-7 decision to Bellwood-Antis on Oct. 9, the same night WHS cruised to a 42-0 win at C-K. The win moved the Blue Pirates into the eighth spot of the District 6 Class 1A rankings with 240 ranking points. The top 12 teams will qualify for the district's 1A postseason.
West Branch holds a 7-6 series lead against WHS since 2004. The Warriors have won the last three matchups, including 37-8 in 2019.
Looking Ahead
The playoffs are scheduled to begin Oct. 23.
