Authority Awaits Permits For Pump Station Project

Stiffler McGraw engineer John Clabaugh told Williamsburg Municipal Authority during last Tuesday evening’s meeting, Oct. 6, that he are still waiting for operating permits for the pump station project.

Clabaugh said that he hopes to have testing done at the pump station mid-October and is planning for a November start-up date.

Two pay requests were approved during the meeting: S&E Construction for $106,070 and Bettwy Electric in the amount of $75,514. Authority Member David Myers made the motion for approval with Authority Member Harry Mullins seconding and the motion passed.

At the new water plant, a cellular alarm system is to be installed. The crew had tested the signal strength prior to installation and it seemed to be good, but now the signal strength was not good. So, to be able to have an alarm system, the authority is going to change it from a cellular modem to licensed radios for the alarm system. To do this will cost an additional $18,400. Authority Member Myers made a motion to make the switch to radios with Authority Member Daryl Cole seconding and the motion passed.

Due to the drought in Blair County, the state requires that each public water carrier have a drought contingency plan. Authority Member Myers made a motion to approve a plan for authority with Authority Member Chet Bingham seconding and the motion passed.

During last month’s meeting, the authority board discussed having each pump station have a spare pump. Authority member Myers made a motion to purchase a spare pump for Fourth Street at a cost of $3,711. Authority Member Cole seconded the motion, which passed.
