The Central High School tennis team finished its 2020 campaign with a record of 6-6.
On Sept. 28, visiting Altoona was victorious, 4-0, in a rain-shortened match. The No. 5 singles and No. 2 doubles were not completed and the No. 1 doubles were not started when rains came and ended the match.
In windy conditions Sept. 30, host Central defeated Shanksville-Stoneycreek, 5-2. The Lady Dragons' Tomi May and Ellen Kennedy dropped tough singles matches at 1 and 2 before twins Miranda and Ariadne Madden and Morgan Kennedy swept the next three singles positions to put the team ahead 3-2. The twins then paired up to clinch the match at the No.-2 doubles match. Tomi May and Ellen Kennedy followed with a victory in the No.-1 doubles match to make final 5-2.
Central finished its campaign with a 7-0 setback to Mountain League champion Clearfield on Oct. 1. The Lady Dragons' Morgan Kennedy lost a tough three-set match at the No.-5 singles position, falling 1-6, 6-4, 10-8.
In District 6 Class 2A doubles action Oct. 2 at Altoona Tomi May and Ellen Kennedy lost a tough three-set match to a team from Forest Hills in first round, 2-6, 7-5, 10-2. Miranda Madden and Ariadne Madden lost, 6-1, 6-1, in first round to a team from Central Cambria.
