Spring Cove School District Has Possible COVID-19 Case

The Spring Cove School District received notice Wednesday, Oct. 7, that a student at the middle school “is under investigation for COVID-19.”

According to Dr. Betsy A. Baker, Spring Cove superintendent, in a letter addressed to parents and guardians in the school district. the district has been in contact with the Department of Health in regard to the situation.

In abundance of caution, Dr. Baker said the school district has been advised to direct all potentially exposed individuals, including the junior high football team (grades 7-9), to self-quarantine. Therefore, junior high football is suspended until further notice, she said in the letter.

“Any individual who was potentially exposed has been contacted by school administrators,” Dr. Baker said. “If you have not been contacted by the school, your child is not impacted by this situation.”

Dr. Baker said the district’s primary goal is the health, safety and well-being of the students, staff and community.

In the letter, Dr. Baker asks parents and guardians to help keep their students safe and in school by washing hands often, wearing a face covering, covering coughs and sneezes, maintaining physical distance by at least 6 feet and avoiding large group gatherings.

“As a preventative measure, please keep your child home when ill and contact your medical provider if experiencing any COVID-related symptoms,” Dr. Baker said.
