Strike Enters Eighth Week

S. Blair Sponeybarger of Altoona, in a letter to Borough Council, said his physician advised him to decrease his workload. This, in addition to his personal and fraternal commitments, made it impossible to stay on as borough engineer.

The CHS band will travel to Ephrata, Lancaster County, Saturday to compete in drill competition sponsored by Ephrata High School.

Wallets were thinner and the pinch a little tighter in Roaring Spring as the strike by 325 employees of Combined Paper Mills, Inc., entered its eighth week Monday affecting both strikers’ families and the town’s merchants.

On Saturday night at the Roaring Spring Athletic Field the undefeated NB Panthers unleashed the highest scoring effort in school’s history by defeating Chestnut Ridge 60-0.

The Roaring Spring Borough Council accepted a $15,100 bid Monday night from the Boswell Lumber Co. for timber on borough wtershed land on Loop Mountain. Twenty-five per cent of the purchase bid will be paid withing three weeks.
