Church to Mark 100 Years

Herald of Oct. 5, 1995

The Loysburg United Methodist Church would celebrate its 100th anniversary of its groundbreaking with a service Sunday, Oct. 8. All three congregations of the Martinsburg Charge of the United Methodist Church would meet for worship that day at Loysburg, led by the Rev. Robert Rupp, pastor. Ground was broken for the current red brick edifice on Oct. 5, 1895. The building was completed in July 1896. The congregation was formed even earlier, meeting in the old Loy School until a church building was erected along Yellow Creek near the first bridge at the edge of Loysburg. High water from the creek flooded the building at that location, resulting in the decision to relocate.

The Spring Cove School Board, Dennis W. Detwiler was named to be middle school assistant principal, and the resignation of Edward A. Barton as principal at the East Freedom Elementary School was read and accepted.

The Central Labor Council of Blair and Bedford Counties honored W. Dean Walters as its Person of the Year.
