NB Defense Shuts Out Vikings

Northern Bedford bounced back from a season-opening defeat and pitched a 40-0 shutout win at Glendale last Friday night, Sept. 18.

The Black Panther defense held the Vikings to under 100 total yards in the game. On the other side of the ball, NB showcased a one-two rushing punch of Cadin Ebersole (185 yards on seven carries) and Dalton Smith (118 yards on 16 carries) and an aerial attack led by senior Thad Leidy, who completed 12 of 15 for 123 yards.

After a scoreless first period, NB scored twice within a three-minute segment of the second quarter. Ebersole had a 5-yard run that was followed up by a Brady Clark defensive interception. The interception set up a Smith TD rush from 4 yards out in a mid second quarter flurry that accounted for the 14-0 Panther halftime lead.

NB continued to operate in “hammer-down” mode on offense in the third period with Clark, Leidy and Kainen Brown all getting touchdowns to balloon the lead to 34-0.

Ebersole got his second touchdown of the night early in the fourth quarter on the most electrifying run of the night, an 89-yard effort to set the 40-0 final.

“We were able to showcase our skill players on offense tonight but a lot of that is to be credited to the offensive line who did a great job,” NB coach Garry Black said.

Glendale did have one scoring opportunity early in the game, but a Kainen Baker interception at the 5-yard line halted the Vikings drive.

“Our defense stepped up after that first drive,” Black said. “Baker’s interception really changed the momentum of the game.”

NB, now 1-1 visits Moshannon Valley this Friday night, Sept. 25.
