Martinsburg Borough Council named a replacement for former councilman David Harker on Tuesday, Sept. 15.
Neil Gartland, co-owner of Gartland's Supply and Country Store, will join council in October. Gartland will replace Harker, who moved out of the borough in August. Harker's term will expire in January 2022. Should Gartland hope to remain on council, he will have to have his name on the 2021 primary ballot.
Richard L. Brantner Jr., borough manager, said there were five individuals interested in filling Harker's position.
Gartland, who was not in attendance, will be sworn in prior to the Monday, Oct. 5 meeting.
In other news, council will vote on Trick-or-Treat Night during the October meeting. It was the consensus of council to table the scheduling of Trick-or-Treat Night until October in case the pandemic social distance rule prohibits it.
