Friends of Library Plan Book Sale

The Friends of the Martinsburg Community Library met for its reorganizational meeting Tuesday, Sept. 15, at the library.

The Friends will sponsor a library book sale Sept. 24-26. It will be held in the Morrisons Cove Memorial Park’s cow barn.

A virtual summer reading program was held and it was very well attended. Benzel’s donated $100 to area libraries for the reading program.

Linda K. Smith will continue to be the president of the Friends. Cathy Feather is the treasurer and Brenda Ritchey is recording secretary.

A retirement get-together was held at Piney Creek Greenhouse for Joanne Stern. The friends donated money to the library to purchase books in honor of Stern, who was a library employee for more than 40 years. Stern will volunteer at the library.

The quilt raffle will be held in December. The Friends urge community members to visit the library to view the quilt on display because the colors on the ticket are not the true colors of the quilt.

The Cove Book Club will meet at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, to discuss “Midnight at the Blackbird Cafe,” by Heather Webber.

Danette Feathers, library director, noted that Lori Perrin and Nancy Bush have been hired as new employees.

The Lions Sight Organization donated $3,000 to purchase large print and audio books.

The Friends will meet at 7 p.m, Nov. 17 at the library.
