Waite Travels to Russia

The Herald featured Philip Waite of Martinsburg as he traveled to Russia and the Ukraine for two weeks as a member of the “Sharkhunters,” an International submarine historical group. Waite, who was formerly on active duty in the Navy and was a member of the Navy Reserves, enjoyed trading stories with the Russian sailors and said he found a lot of things in common with them.

Glen D. Grabill of Martinsburg was the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award Morrisons Cove Home’s 16th annual Good Samaritan Banquet.

The Claysburg Area Public Library would celebrate its 30th anniversary with an open house Sunday, Sept. 24. After renting for 17 years the library moved into the completely renovated building on Bedford Street, Claysburg, during March 1982.

John R. “Jack” Bassler of Roaring Spring was installed as commander of Murray-Appleman American Legion Post 147, Roaring Spring. Commander Bassler was a 52-year member of the American Legion, having served four years in the U.S. Air Force.
