CHS Tops BEA, 33-9

The Central High School football team opened its 2020 campaign Sept. 11 with a 33-9 victory at Bald Eagle Area.

Central’s win gave head coach Dave Baker his 200th career coaching win.

Central jumped out to a 14-0 lead after the first quarter. Quarterback Jeff Hoenstine tossed the first of three touchdown passes on the night, a 54-yard strike to Hunter Smith just 1:24 into the game. Austin Keith added the PAT.

Parker Gregg’s 1-yard score and Keith’s PAT gave the Dragons a 14-point lead with 2:44 remaining in the opening quarter.

BEA registered a safety with 8:41 to play before halftime to make the score 14-2.

Central broke the game open just before halftime, as Demetrious Harbaugh returned a punt 65 yards for a touchdown. Keith’s PAT made it 21-2 at the break.

Hoenstine threw two touchdown passes in the third quarter – 8 yards to Hunter Klotz and 6 yards to Ethan Eicher.

BEA added a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Hoenstine completed 15 of 23 passes for 208 passing yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Smith had three receptions for 76 yards, catches.

Gregg finished with nine carries for 62 yards, and Hoenstine ran the ball eight times for 41 yards.

Up next, CHS will travel to Bellefonte (0-1) on Friday, Sept. 18, while BEA will entertain Huntingdon (0-1).
