Martinsburg Library Plans Fundraising Events

Due to the pandemic, the Martinsburg Community Library along with many other people and businesses is suffering financially. Library services affected are book purchases, staffing and rent payments.

Library visitation and circulation at all county libraries is down 40 to 50 percent. For Martinsburg, cancellation of the Taste of the Cove event which contributes 15 percent of the budget is one missing budget item. Fines and copies usually contribute about $1,000 and two library book sales amount to almost $1,500 yearly. Gifts and donations are down $8,000 compared to last year. Funding from the state of Pennsylvania has been bifurcated so that the library received only 5/12 of its yearly allowance.

Currently there are some library fundraisers in progress. Concluding in the next two days is the mum sale. A voucher purchased at the library allows you to pick out a beautiful mum at Brubakers Greenhouse in Fredericksburg.

"We thank Brubakers greatly for their support," Librarian Danette Feathers said.

A variety of candy bars are on sale. Library-themed T-shirts (long and short sleeved) and sweatshirts can be ordered in youth and adult sizes. A library book sale is scheduled for Sept. 24-26 during library hours. Attendees may select a bag of books.

If you have books to contribute to the library sale, bring them to the library on Wednesday, Sept. 23, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. or on Thursday , Sept. 24, from 9 a.m. to noon. If you cannot bring books at either of these times call the library at 793-3335 or call 515-6205 and arrangements will be made to pick them up.

We are dedicated to continuing to provide the level of service our community has come to expect from the library," Feathers said.
