According to Pennsylvania State Police, Hollidaysburg at 2:52 a.m. on Aug. 15, a 911 hang-up call dispatched police to Johnstown Rd., Freedom Township and found no one at the scene.
Police contacted the caller at approximately 5:35 a.m. who indicated that she was involved in an earlier domestic dispute with her boyfriend, Bradley Richard Gates while driving along the 800 block of Johnstown Rd., Freedom Township.
According to the victim, she and Gates got into an argument and he pulled her unloaded 16 gauge shotgun from between the front seats of her car and pointed it at her head while stating “I’m going to kill you and your family.”
The victim then got out of her vehicle and ran and hid behind some skids along the roadway. Gates then sped off down the road looking for the victim.
The victim stated that as she was walking down the road Gates pulled up and told her to get in the car or he was going to kill her. The victim got into the vehicle and began driving and fighting so she grabbed the gun from between the seats and threw it out the window near Butler Hollow Rd.
At one point, Gates allowed the victim to drive because he felt sick. The victim claims that Gates struck her in the face several times with his fist as she was driving causing her right eye to swell.
Gates ordered the victim to drive to his mother’s house in Roaring Spring. The victim stopped at the Turkey Hill and when she returned to the vehicle Gates was gone.
The gun allegedly used by Gates was recovered from Johnstown Rd. and entered into PSP Hollidaysburg evidence room.
Gates is facing a first-degree felony charge of aggravated assault and several misdemeanors.
Unable to post the $75,000 bail, Gates was confined to the Blair County Prison. A preliminary hearing is set for Aug. 27 in front of Magisterial District Judge Andrew L. Blattenberger.
