Putting cows on the front page since 1885.
Stop in the Martinsburg Community Library and take a $10 chance on the beautiful quilt that is on display.
The colorful quilt is queen size. Brenda Ritchey and Janet Gorman selected the material, Janelle Zimmerman pieced the quilt together and Garman did the quilting. The drawing will be held on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2020. All proceeds will benefit the library.
With the restrictions imposed because of COVID-19, the library is suffering financial difficulties. Ordinarily the library would have money-makers including Taste of the Cove, two yearly booksales and the pretzel/candy sale. Because of the length of time that the library was closed fines that would be imposed were forgiven. Fines, too, are a source of income for the library.
Presently the library is open with some restrictions. Only two public computers are available for use, although there are also two laptops available if needed. All books are returned to the bookdrop so that they can be quarantined and disinfected. Masks are required to enter the building and hand sanitizers are available. Only 15 people are allowed in the library at a time.
Library Director Danette Feathers asks that patrons use hand sanitizers before entering the building and after exiting. Some requirements have been suggested by the Office of the Commonwealth and the library division of the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
Feathers said the Martinsburg library is having some extra expenses including instillation of a sneeze guard at the circulation desk and cleaning supplies.
Patrons who prefer to not enter the building may call 793-3335 or email the library at mclibrary@atlanticbbn.net to request titles, which will be selected by staff and then put in the lobby for pickup.
