More Than Soap

Hygiene Health Cabinet Coming to RS Library

There are many people in our community who are facing new economic challenges because of the mandatory closure of businesses due to COVID-19. Financial resources are tight and there may not be enough left in the budget for personal hygiene items. The Roaring Spring Community Library recognizes that there is a need in our community and we are here to help.

Thanks to the generosity of the Nason Foundation, we were awarded a grant to help those experiencing life challenges such as homelessness, economic hardship and poverty gain access to personal hygiene items they might not otherwise be able to afford. Our new Hygiene Health Cabinet will be available starting Sept. 8. There will be a variety of items including shampoo, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, personal wipes, dental floss, combs, and shaving kits.

In addition to the Hygiene Health Cabinet, we were also awarded a stipend from the Blair County School Nurses Association in order to provide feminine hygiene and health kits. We understand that this can be a very awkward and embarrassing topic especially for adolescents. The feminine hygiene and health kits will be able to be accessed anonymously, as will the items in the Hygiene Health Cabinet.

In order to keep this project going, we are also accepting monetary donations as well as donations of new, travel sized items such as soap, shampoo, deodorant, body lotion, chapstick, toothpaste and individually wrapped personal wipes. We will also accept donations of new, unopened boxes/bags of feminine products such as sanitary napkins, tampons and individually wrapped feminine wipes in order to keep providing these vital items to those in our community who are in need.

Again, anyone in need may access these items anonymously starting on Sept. 8. There is no cost, however we do ask that when accessing the Hygiene Health Cabinet and Feminine Hygiene and Health kits that individuals only take what they need.

If anyone has any questions regarding the Hygiene Health Cabinet, Feminine Hygiene and Health Kits, or if they wish to make a donation to ensure the continuation of these services, please call the library at 224-2994, email info@roaringspringlibrary.org or send us a message via Facebook.
