Iron Workers Get Pay Hike

Several thousand employees of the Cambria Iron Co. at Johnstown were given a 10 percent wage increase, increasing the payroll of the company by $20,000 a month.

A carload of McCormick reapers and blinders arrived for Nelson Keim, general agent, and A.B. Mock, local agent.

Miss Alice Weingarber was appointed postmistress at Drab.

Prof. Wendt of Newburg was in Roaring Spring tuning pianos and organs.

The Martinsburg Methodist Church observed Children’s Day with programs by the children under the direction of Mrs. J.P. Allen, Prof. J.K. Ritchey and Miss Lena Allen.

A good sized audience was on hand at Seminary Hall to hear a concert by the Leman Bros. Orchestra of Altoona.

Speeds of over 84 miles per hour were recorded frequently by the Philadelphia & Reading and by the Central New Jersey railroads.

Dr. Peter Farney of Chicago, proprietor and manufacturer of Farney’s blood purifier, accompanied by his wife, was visiting friends in the Cove.
