Thanks to a grant from the Blair County Health and Welfare Council, and because in-person classes were cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, Penn State Extension is offering several series of “Dining with Diabetes” live webinars without charge to 25 Blair County residents who want to learn how to better manage diabetes.
Each series includes four consecutive weekly webinars with a follow-up webinar three months later. Currently there are three series scheduled to begin on the following dates: Tuesday, June 9, at 6 p.m., Thursday, June 11, at 10 a.m., and Thursday, July 2, at 1 p.m.
“Dining with Diabetes” is a nationally accredited diabetes education program that is geared toward anyone who has type 2 diabetes or pre-diabetes, has a family member with type 2 diabetes, or is at risk for developing diabetes. Extension educators and registered dietitians will lead the webinars.
Each webinar offers information on healthy food and physical activity choices, food demonstrations, and guidance on important numbers to know for managing diabetes. In addition to program related booklets, participants will receive the “Dining with Diabetes” cookbook and course related handouts.
The webinar series is $15 for all five sessions. Up to 25 Blair County residents will receive a discount for the full fee when they enter Blair as their county of residence.
