W-burg Students Rewarded

Herald of June 4, 1970

An effort to steal a safe from the Allegheny Air Lines Office failed Saturday night when the burglars were spotted by an alert Federal Aviation Administration man on duty at the Blair County Airport at Martinsburg.

NES&L was awarded a contract for $12,266 in paving work by Martinsburg Borough. The bid came in $5,000 under the only other bid.

The striking employees of the prestress concrete plant of NES&L returned to work after voting to end their 16-day walkout.

Students of the fifth grade of Williamsburg Elementary of which Gary S. Clapper is the homeroom teacher, were rewarded with a covered dish supper.

At the first few meetings of the P.T.A., Mr. Clapper’s room won the attendance banner. So, he told the students that if they won it every month, they would have a dinner as a reward. They won!

The Chestnut Ridge High School literary art magazine, “Bit of Lit,” has been awarded first place honors in the annual Columbia University Press Association competition in N.Y.C.
