CKSD to Recognize 60 Seniors in Drive-In Style

Claysburg-Kimmel High School will hold a "drive-in" style commemcement ceremony for the Class of 2020 on Sunday, May 31.

Graduation will begin at 2 p.m. and will occur in the student parking lot behind the high school.

Due to space constraints, access will be limited to graduates and their immediate families (one car per graduate).

The ceremony will resemble a normal commencement ceremony except all participants will stay in their cars.

Individual speakers will exit their cars and come to the stage for their speeches. Speaking at commencement will be Michael Baker, the senior class president, who will give the welcome; Maggie Knisely, salutatorian of the Class of 2020; and Shadey Claycomb, valedictorian of the Class of 2020.

Graduates will approach the stage in small socially distance groups and as they are announced will walk across the stage with their diploma and have their pictures taken by our school photographer.

Speakers and students approaching the stage will wear masks and practice social distancing.

The school district will limit one person on the stage at any given time and there will be no handshaking or any other contact during the event.

The event will be live streamed on the district's YouTube channel, CKTV, for those unable to attend.

Immediately following the graduation ceremony, the cars will be released from the lot and form a parade down Bedford Street that will occur at approximately 3 p.m. The parade will disperse on Bedford Street near NPC Inc.

Anyone wishing to honor the graduates during the parade are asked that they adhere to the social distancing rules.
