'The Wall that Heals' Coming to Bedford

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund is still on schedule to bring “The Wall That Heals” to Bedford County beginning with the escort on July 21.

The county is still in need of volunteers to serve as ambassadors and for people to help set up the Wall on July 22 and tear down the Wall on July 26.

The Wall display will be open 24 hours a day from July 23 through 26, closing at 2 p.m. on July 26.

The traveling Wall exhibit is a three-quarter-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. The traveling exhibit consists of the Wall and a mobile Education Center.

Plans are to set up the traveling Wall at the Bedford Middle School track/athletic facility at 440 E. Watson St., Bedford.

Admission to the display is free. The display is open 24 hours a day while it is up and all are welcome.

The Wall escort is scheduled to arrive at 4 p.m. on July 21. The Honors Ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on July 25.

Organizations such as schools, church groups, senior centers, or camp/youth groups can be given tours. Please email twthbedford2020@gmail.com for more information.

Trained staff from the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund will be on-site to provide free educational tours of the exhibits.

Also, please note that the “In Memory” program can provide healing to those affected by the war. This program honors Vietnam Veterans who, after they returned from Vietnam, died from service-related causes.

When The Wall is on display in Bedford, the mobile Education Center will display photos of all from Pennsylvania who have been honored in the “In Memory” program.

This free voluntary program annually adds names of those enrolled by a family member, friend, or fellow service member. It is easy to apply to honor a Vietnam Veteran and add their name to the In Memory honor roll. The link below provides program information and access to the application:
