Work to Resume on the Route 22 Canoe Creek Improvements Project on May 4

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced April 30 that prime contractor Plum Contracting Inc., of Greensburg, will resume work on the Route 22 Canoe Creek Improvements Project in Frankstown Township, Blair County.

Beginning May 4, the contractor will be completing final grading, seeding, line painting and any other miscellaneous project items. This will be done under daylight flagging operations and delays are possible. Motorists are advised to allow extra time.

Overall work on this project consists of intersection improvements along an approximately one-mile stretch of Route 22 near Canoe Creek State Park. The work includes the realignment of the Route 22 intersection to form a four-way intersection between Route 22 and Route 1011 (Turkey Valley Road).

Widening will also be performed along Route 22 to accommodate left-turn lanes at the reconstructed intersection along with the replacement of a two-span concrete bridge and a single-span concrete bridge that carries Route 22 over Canoe Creek, replacement of a concrete box culvert with a precast concrete box culvert carrying Route 22 over a tributary to Canoe Creek, and construction of a concrete box culvert that carries Route 2022 (Juniata Valley Road) over a tributary to Canoe Creek.

All work on this $9.6 million project is expected to be completed by late June 2020.

Work on this project will be in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and state Department of Health guidance as well as a project-specific COVID-19 safety plan, which will include protocols for social distancing, use of face coverings, personal and job-site cleaning protocols, management of entries to the job site, and relevant training.
