Don’t forget to include a picture of your artwork, the name of your artwork, your first name, your age and where you’re from! Submissions will not be accepted from Facebook.
Here are some Easter activities to do this weekend while you’re at home!
STEM: Colorful Easter Egg Explosion!
What you will need:
Empty egg carton, plastic Easter eggs, food coloring, baking soda, vinegar, squirt bottle, large container
How to do it:
1. Place the empty egg carton in the large container (this is so you don’t make a huge mess).
2. Place one half of a plastic Easter egg in each holder of the egg carton.
3. Put some vinegar in a squirt bottle.
4. Drop a few drops of food coloring in each Easter egg half.
5. Put a teaspoon or two of baking soda in each Easter egg half.
6. Squeeze some vinegar into the Easter eggs and watch them bubble!
7. Send a picture of your Colorful Easter Egg Explosion to the Herald!
ART: Easter Bunny Handprint
What you will need:
Washable paints (white, pink and black), construction paper (any color you like!)
How to do it:
1. Carefully use the white paint to cover your hand, leaving out your thumb.
2. Make a Star Trek Vulcan Salute (pinkie and ring finger together, middle and pointer finger together) handprint on the construction paper. This should make a print that looks like a bunny with its ears sticking up!
3. Paint the inside of the bunny’s ears pink!
4. Paint in the bunny’s eyes, nose, whiskers and mouth!
5. Let it dry. Send a picture of your Easter Bunny Handprint to the Herald!
TIPS: You can make your Easter bunny any colors you like! The ones we chose are realistic, but we encourage you to make yours funky and fun!
PHYSICAL: Easter Hopscotch Course
What you will need:
An outside pavement, sidewalk chalk, plastic Easter eggs, Easter basket, paper, pencil
How to do it:
1. Tear up the paper into small pieces. On each piece of paper, write a type of movement (“skip”, “move like a frog”, “march like a soldier”, any sort of silly movement will do).
2. Put each piece of paper into an Easter egg. Once the Easter egg has a movement in it, place it in the Easter basket.
3. Create a hopscotch course on the pavement outside with chalk.
4. Pick an Easter egg out of the Easter basket and go through the hopscotch course with the movement you chose!
5. Send a picture of your Easter Hopscotch Course to the Herald!
FOOD: Peep House
What you will need:
Peeps (any color will do), graham crackers
How to do it:
1. Use graham crackers to create a small house for your Peep.
2. Once the house is complete, put your Peep inside its house.
3. Send a picture of your Peep House to the Herald!
4. Eat your Peep and its house.
TIPS: Use other types of food or candy to keep the house together and to decorate it! Make a nice little space for your Peep!
