When the doorbell rings and a delivery person has a box addressed to Abner, life takes a tragic turn. The box contained a golden egg that is filled with a deadly toxin. Clues begin to fall into place once another sealed box and golden egg containing the same toxin shows up at another residence, and a woman is found dead. Eve and Peabody track the similarities and work to uncover what these deaths may have in common.

Eve is a complex character, and this book shows even more sides of her, as it explores the growing relationship between her and the people in her life, including her husband, Roarke.
