Safety and Security Grant
The board approved the budget for the Safety and Security grant that the district recently received.
Among the items included in the approximately $141,000 grant is the addition of a guidance counselor and the upgrades to a key FOB (frequency operated button) entry system in the district’s buildings. A key FOB is a keyless remote device that allows entry into a building or restricted area of a building.
“This was a team effort in securing the grant,” Superintendent Darren J. McLaurin said.
The school district will begin a new math series in 2020-21, as the board approved the purchase of Pearson enVision Math for four years, for kindergarten through 12th grade, at a cost of $82,236.
Board directors approved the memorandum of understanding between the school district and Blair County Children, Youth and Families regarding the transportation procedures agreement for foster care youth and the transportation plan between the CKSD and Blair County Children, Youth and Families.
The transportation services agreement with A&M Transportation was extended for the next seven years by the board.
The revised drug testing permission slip was approved by the board. Once a student signs the slip in seventh grade, it is valid through 12th grade for all sports.
The board approved the following substitute nurses: Tiffany Musselman, Angela Ebersole, Jessica Replogle, Courtney Hill, Ashley Musselman and Kay Burket.
The board approved the National Art Honor Society as an approved student activity.
Athletic Facilities Project
The board approved the master plan option No. 2 for the athletic facilities project at the high school.
The $3.42 million project will include work on the football, baseball and junior high softball field, bleachers and press box; a new varsity softball field; lighting; concession stands; walkways; maintenance building; drainage; and a new outdoor basketball court.
The district hopes to put bids out for the project before the end of the current school year.
