Letter to the Editor - OPINION
To the Editor:
My wife and I were recently riding in our car when the daily White House briefing on the Covid-19 virus came on. I turned it off but she made me turn it back on.
What I heard was a stunning and frighteningly ignorant performance by President Trump. And poor Dr. Fauci had to stand there and listen to the nonsense.
Not only is Trump demonstrably dumber than a rock, with the vocabulary of a child, he will never take responsibility for any of his actions or failings. It’s always someone else’s fault.
He has pivoted 180 degrees from labeling the virus as fake news to declaring it a national emergency. In the interim, however, America lost several previous weeks to begin taking drastic measures to deal with it. Those delays will likely have killed many more Americans, thanks to Mr. Trump.
This is what “leadership” looks like in 2020 and this is what happens when wealthy, tax-averse conservatives have starved the federal government for years, crippling its ability to respond. We pay our taxes for times like these.
Will those billionaires now give back their tax cuts for the good of the other 99 percent of us? I am not optimistic.
But rest assured, big companies will receive billions in bailouts that their army of lobbyists have crammed into to the final recovery legislation.”
